An exclusive conversation with Rebecca Hall about her acclaimed upcoming directorial debut PASSING
Netflix hosted an exclusive conversation with Rebecca Hall about her acclaimed upcoming directorial debut PASSING, starring Tessa Thompson and Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga. Based on the novel by Nella Larsen, the film follows two Black women, Irene (tessa Thompson) & Clare (Ruth Negga) who can pass as white and choose to live on opposite sides of the color line in 1929 New York. Written and directed by Rebecca Hall.
Mixed-race childhood friends reunite in middle class adulthood and become increasingly involved with one another’s lives and insecurities. While Irene identifies as African-American and is married to a black doctor, Clare “passes“ as white and has married a prejudiced, but wealthy white man.
