Poland: Protesters burn German flag during rally in Warsaw on Independence Day

Thousands took to the streets of the Polish capital to rally on the country’s national day. The event usually features a heavy law enforcement presence as nationalist groups have been historically blamed for clashing with left wing groups, members of the public and the police. The march had previously been banned but a decision was taken to classify it as a state observance - thus allowing it to go ahead. Poland’s Independence Day celebrates the country being liberated after more than a century of partitions by Austria-Hungary, Germany and Russia.
