Nadezhda Plevitskaya, the great Russian singer, admired by the last Russian Tsar. She was known for her highly artistic and deeply emotional interpretations of Russian folk songs and “Romance’ songs, originated from the gypsy music which was extremely popular in Russia at the turn of the 20th song “Chayka“ (The Seagull) by Jurakovsky, an allusion to the famous Chekhov’s play. Recorded approximately in 1910.
