Trudeau’s China policy questioned as “Two Michaels“ mark two years in detention

Leader of the official opposition Erin O’Toole started Thursday’s Question Period in the House of Commons with a pointed exchange with Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland regarding the government’s policy towards China, in light of the 2-year anniversary of the detention of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig - AKA “The Two Michaels.“ O’Toole questioned the Liberal government’s approach to joint military training exercises with the Chinese military, against the chief of the defence staff’s recommendations and “Five Eyes” security concerns. Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan confirmed later that Canada in fact has stopped those training programs.
