Mike Reed plays Duke Ellington’s “Satin Doll“ on the 1974 Hammond Grandee Organ

Didn’t know what to play this afternoon, so my “muse“ started humming “Satin Doll“, so, as usual, I follow the lead. A super jazz standard written by “Duke“ Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Johnny Mercer, from 1953, and its chord progressions are well known for the unusual use of harmony. I was told by many great organists that this is the organ players’ national anthem. I agree, and I recorded this tune on my first record album “Make it with Mike“, on Carellen Records, in 1966, when I was 19 years old. With great music from the “Duke“, right here, Saturday, June 25, 2022, where “Life is Good“ with a hot 88 degrees and plenteous Sunshine. Thanks for listening. Swing it, baby. 😎🎹🌴
