THE PARTY by CASIOPEA is a staged and directed live performance released as an —AUDIO STACK— CD and, on it’s original release, a —VISUAL STACK— LD (Laserdisc) and VHS casette in 1990. * Bearcat’s Review: * THE PARTY is a chance to experience the optimism that was felt during the bubble era (バブル時代) at the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s when Japan was at the height of it’s growth and global influence. This concert is a true reflection of the spirit of that time. It marks the introduction of new bass player Yoshihiro Naruse 鳴瀬喜博 and drummer Masaaki Hiyama 日山正明 to Casiopea. Their animated and energetic style comes across in the rhythm, tempo and energy of these performances. You can hear guitarist and lead Issei Noro 野呂一生 and keyboardist Minoru Mukaiya 向谷 実 took influences from south american music (“Blue Flame“, “Heart Beat“), smooth jazz (“Nostalgia“, “Romancing“), pop (“Flush Up“), and funk (“Grand Universe“). Both “Stormy Hearts“ and “Heart Beat“ demonstrate using genres from latin music and developing them into complex, dramatic and powerful pieces of music. My personal favourite track is “The Eyewitness“, a song packed full of positivity and groove that is one of my all time favourites from Casiopea.
