Israeli settlers attack Palestinian supermarket and family, wounding a man in the head in Huwarah

On Monday, 6 March 2023, at around 9:30 P.M., about four settlers, some masked and one armed with an axe, arrived at the Abu al-’Ayal supermarket on the main street of the town of Huwarah (Route 60). They attacked the store and cars parked next to it with stones. Some of the store’s employees tried to fight them off, but had to flee back inside and shut the doors. The Khalifah family, which had just finished shopping, were in their car getting ready to drive home to ‘Asirah al-Qibliyah. The settlers smashed the back window of the car, and the axe-wielding settler smashed the driver’s side window, where ‘Omar Khalifah (28) was sitting. The settler tried to attack him and sprayed pepper spray inside the car. At that point, the father, Idris Khalifah (68), got out of the car to try to drive the settlers away. They threw stones at him, one of which hit his head, injuring him. Other stones shattered the rest of the car’s windows. Khalifah got back inside the car, and the family members managed to drive away and flee the area. After the family’s car had driven about 400 meters, another settler started chasing it in his car. The settler fired several shots with his gun. The family suspects one of them hit the rear window of the car, where they later found a bullet hole. The settler then bumped his car into the family’s and blocked its way. They were forced to stop, and the settler then told them to get out of the car. At that point, some Palestinian youths came out of the stores in the area, and the settler fled.
