On this day in 2009, a desperate Palestinian father went looking for the remains of his son, presumed slain by Israeli soldiers, in northeastern Gaza. We accompanied him. When the teen’s (unarmed) body was located, badly decomposed, the men with the father gathered the remains in a sheet and began carrying it away. This was all while under Israeli gunfire. The well-armed Israeli soldiers could see perfectly well that we were all unarmed & clearly looking for the teen an Israeli soldier had murdered nearly two months shot around us as is the norm. Their policy of harassment, maiming & murdering Palestinians, is *not* about security. It never was. That should be abundantly clear by now as Israel genocides Gaza.
