Repetitive music at times makes me zone out and lose focus. The slight lull in attention causes me to drift off losing my place of thought/action. If you’re like me, there’s a certain part of your brain that is always reaching out trying to grab something new, focusing on whatever sound or light or movement is occurring nearby. Shifting focus. I make music patches like this (original clip: formless, randomized, chaotic, non-repetitive, to run at low volume in the background of my day to help me keep focus and pay attention – for hours at a time. It sounds counter-intuitive, but don’t avoid the distractive chaos, embrace it, give your brain just enough for a small portion of it that wants to reach out and focus on a distraction, while the rest of your brain can focus on the task at hand.
