They did it. And how? Watch this Story. The rebuild began basically when Theo was hired as the President of Operations on the Cubs. Also hired (not included in this video) was Jed Hoyer, the general manager. Many moves were made then, due to Theo and him being a mastermind. Rizzo was acquired from the Padres, Jake Arrieta and Strop were sent from Orioles to Cubs, Kris Bryant was drafted, Kyle Hendricks was included in a trade with the Rangers that send him over, Addison Russell was packaged to the Cubs from the A’s, Dexter Fowler was traded from the Astros, Jon Lester was signed to the Cubs, and many other transactions. Theo is one of the smartest men in sports history in his tactics in rebuilding and getting a team to a championship.
