Before I finished my Lanza cycle I wanted to do one of these pitting him with the great Caruso, his idol and the man he was most often compared with during his lifetime. Notably, Lanza himself did not encourage the comparison, the following are some quotes from interviews. Around the time of his first film (1949) Lanza said: “I wish they [the critics] wouldn’t compare me with Caruso. I’ve got a long way to go before I even rate a mention in the same breath as Caruso.“
