Kingdom of Lazeti / Kingdom of Lazica - 131-697 AD
As a result of the disintegration of the Kingdom of Colchis (Kolkheti) and the gaining of independence by the tribal-territorial units included in it, In 100 AD, the principality of Lazica was established. Later, In 131 AD, the royal capital of Lazica was established in Nokalakevi. The main languages of this state were Colchian (Zan language - Mingrelo-Laz language) and Svan language. The population was as follows: Egres/Lazes (Zans/Chans/ Colchians), Svans and in some periods also Apshils, Sanigs, Jiks and Heniokhes. These peoples were the confessors of the Colchian pagan pantheon. Later, Christianity gradually gained a foothold - Church of Colchis was established by the Apostle Andrew in the 1st century when he he preached and spread Christianity in Colchis and Scythia.
∎ In 131 AD, the kingdom of Lazeti was established and from that time until the 3rd century it was a state with high sovereignty.
∎ From a certain period of the 3rd century to the end of the 5th century, it was a vassal of the Roman Empire, but independent state.
∎ In the years 541-562, the most important geopolitical wars between the empires took place on the territory of the Kingdom of Lazeti, which decided the fate of the presence or absence of the Byzantine Empire. These wars are known as Lazic wars.
∎ In the 7th century, the kingdom of Lazeti was annexed and it became a direct part of the Byzantine Empire, its integral region with the status of the Lazic region.
∎ At the same time, independence was restored again in the 7th century.
∎ In 697, it was abolished as a state. It completely lost its independence and became part of the Arab Caliphate de facto and de jure.
∎ In 697-711 - one of the regions and a direct part of the Arab Caliphate.
∎ From 711 to 762 - the integral region of the Principality of Iberia (principality of Kartli) and its part.
∎ From 778 - the territory of the former Kingdom of Lazeti (Lazica) was declared as the Kingdom of Abkhazia.
