Gertie the Dinosaur - silent cartoon (1914)

The earliest animated film to feature a dinosaur, Gertie was created by American cartoonist Winsor McCay. Primarily known as a commercial and comic strip artist, he decided to add ’animator’ to his job titles and began making films. His first animated cartoon was ’Little Nemo’ (1911), based on his own comic strip of the same name. He followed this up with ’How a Mosquito Operates’ (1912).
