Caring For Puppe the Sumatran Orangutan

September marks Puppe’s 53rd birthday! 🦧🎂 Puppe is one of many aging residents here at the Zoo and a great ambassador for her species. Being at the Zoo since we opened in 1974, her care has had to evolve with her age, as it does with all of our geriatric animals as they live out their golden years here at the Zoo. Although an aging animal population comes with its challenges at times, our dedicated Wildlife Care team make the necessary adjustments and accommodations to ensure top-notch quality care each and every day for our geriatric animals, allowing them to often live longer and healthier lives than they could in their wild habitats.
