AFRICAN PENGUINS ARE ENDANGERED - The wild African penguin population has declined due to habitat destruction, commercial over-fishing, pollution and oil spills. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were an estimated 3 million wild African penguins, and today there are less than 19,000 breeding pairs in the wild. Penguin Awareness Day is a great time to spend thinking about the world’s favourite aquatic, flightless birds.
