S-300 & S-400 Air Defence

Song: In Extremo - Liam The Russian S-300 and S-400 are long range anti-air systems designed to engage targets such as cruise missiles, aircraft, and ballistic missiles. S-400: The development of the S-400 system began in the late 1990s. The system was formally announced by the Russian Air Force in January 1999. On 12 February 1999, the first tests were performed at Kapustin Yar in Astrakhan which were reported successful. As a result of this, the S-400 entered service with the Russian Army in 2007. S-400 is capable of tracking over 100 targets and engaging 6 simultaneously at ranges up-to 400km (250mi). The S-400’s capabilities over shadow the American MIM-104 PAC-3 Patriot system, and even top the S-300. Russia currently operates 3 battalions, and will arm 4 others by years end.
