In 1246, Galich became the capital of an independent principality formed after the death of the Grand Duke of Vladimir Yaroslav Vsevolodovich. During the 16th century, Galich was acquired by Moscow and, as such became a stronghold of Moscow in the fight against the Kazan defensive significence by Moscow until 1552, when the Khanate was annexed by Moscow.... After the revolution of 1917, Galich continues to develop as one of the major industrial centers of the region. Many modern industrial enterprises of the city arose on the basis of pre-revolutionary enterprises and production artels created in the 1920–1930s .
