What happens if cleaning laser runs over your hand? [Do not try at home]

’’What happens if you accidentally run the laser over your hand?’’ [Do not try at home] We get this question on a daily basis, so how gentle is laser cleaning? We decided to document what happens when a 200W pulsed laser runs over your hand, and what’s the result? Surprisingly, not much will happen (trust us, we knew that before we tried). As long as your skin tone is light, you won’t even feel it (since light absorbs better in dark colors). You won’t get cancer either as the DNA damage is restricted to ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths below 400 nm which is way lower than our laser’s wavelength. We obviously don’t say that laser cleaning is safe (only when you do it properly), and of course even 200w pulsed laser could hurt you if the beam was focused into a smaller point. We couldn’t be more serious about laser safety, eyes protection and lungs protection (that’s why we supply all of our lasers with special protective glasses and powerful fume extraction systems with filters). Laser cleaning uses concentrated laser radiation to evaporate impurities from the layer. The impurities are affected by ultra-short laser pulses (ns), which generate heat and heat-induced pressure – the high temperature inside the material creates a high pressure that causes it to evaporate. Almost no waste material is generated during laser cleaning, because most of the impurities evaporate, thanks to the high efficiency of the laser resonators used, the cleaning process has very low operating costs. Laser cleaning is a non-contact, non-abrasive method that is very gentle on the surface of the material. Since the course of the interaction of laser radiation with the material depends on the material, it is possible to set the cleaning parameters so that the substrate remains undamaged after cleaning. Narran is a direct Czech manufacturer of laser cleaning systems. Depending on the needs of the application, we can design and integrate the laser into production lines, build a robotic workplace or supply a portable mobile laser for a wide range of applications.
