Angel of The North

Angel of the North, created by internationally renown British visual artist, Sir Antony Gormley. A public piece of art, it was commissioned by Gateshead Borough Council 1994, at a cost of £1m. It was eventually installed on 16th of February 1998, upon the site of a former County Durham Colliery. The Angel instantly became one of the most viewed works of art in the world, as 90,000 motorists pass it each day, travelling on the A1M.
