The episode follows the work of pastor Len Barnard, an Australian missionary who began working for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1933, operating primarily on the island of New Guinea. Barnard became a licensed pilot and brought medical care to remote areas, work that included contact with lepers. In the 1960s, Barnard co-founded Adventist Aviation which continues to operate a fleet of aircraft in the South Pacific Division. Barnard retired in the 1980s.
