I’ve included everything, from how I create my preliminary pencil sketch stemming loosely from a reference photo, to how I choose the colors I’ll be bringing in, to my favorite techniques that help me develop realism while bringing in some looseness and expressive qualities into the piece. I explain how to develop a wide range of values to create a believable sense of dimension (from highlights, to midtones, to darkest darks), and how to bring in the bright paper as part of the piece for that glow and lightness that’s so particular to watercolor.
