Reel 5. “But from the ruins rose a new and greater city.“ Liverpool Post-war Development Committee set about rebuilding the city. C/U of a large sign outside Kirkby - City of Liverpool Housing Estate. Various shots of building work, construction. Kirkby Industrial Estate. Plan to encourage new industries to the city. Because Liverpool had relied on the Maritime trade it was decided that other trades should be developed in case of any further lapse in world trade. Shots of foundries, factories, industry, machinery etc. Tommy Handley pays a visit to his mother in Liverpool. She sits at a tea table in her garden. He gives her a gift - looks like a bottle of Johnnie Walker whisky! He also gives her some nylons. Other comedians are featured. Arthur Askey comes out of his house wearing a woman’s apron. He puts his milk bottles out and wipes his hands on his apron. He realises that he is being filmed, looks embarrassed and goes back into his house. Billy Bennett is seen going into a money lenders
