The winter storm swept across several parts of the US, including the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, leaving at least a million people without power. In California, storm Piper is wreaking havoc on its own. A powerful winter storm brought with it bitter cold, gusty winds and blizzards. More than 820,000 homes and businesses are without power in Michigan after the devastating ice storm. One of the state’s largest electricity providers said the ice had caused “extraordinary damage“ to its power infrastructure. The company says several people are still without power in the freezing cold, and downed power lines are also creating dangerous conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather summary for several areas of the country, home to more than 13 million people. Meanwhile, in California, drivers were caught off guard by a rare weather phenomenon, a separate storm known as Storm Piper. They reported difficult driving conditions in San Bernardino.
