The host is the well known Willem Duys. Sarah Lois Vaughan was born in Los Angeles (1924-1990). She is one of the greatest American jazz singers of all times. Sarah Vaughan was born in a very musical family. Her father Jake was a carpenter and played the guitar and piano. Her mother Ada was a laundress who sang in the church choir. Sarah grow up in a deeply religious family and began playing the piano at the age of seven in the church. Sarah became friends with George Treadwell who also played the trumpet. Later on, George became Sarah’s manager. This footage came from Grand Gala du Disque in 1963, where something very special happened.
