During the IISS Prague Defence Summit, Admiral Rob Bauer, the chair of the NATO Military Committee, stated that the primary deterrent to deploying NATO troops in Ukraine is Russia’s nuclear weapons. According to him, this factor plays a crucial role: I am absolutely sure if the Russians did not have nuclear weapons, we would have been in Ukraine, kicking them out. But they have nuclear weapons, so it’s not the same as Afghanistan. ️ Officially, NATO asserts that there are no alliance troops in the SMO zone. However, Moscow has consistently reported otherwise.
