Why is it called the ’Cold Moon’? According to Internet sources, the Full Moon for December is named this way because it coincides with the winter solstice. It was also called the ’Long Night Moon’ by some Native Americans, as it occurred on the longest night of the year. But there are also other names. The Haida tribe called December’s full moon ’The Snow Moon’ or ’Ta’aaw Kungaay’.
