Disaster does not come alone. Japan is once again struck by a natural calamity. Following a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.6 that occurred on January 1, 2024, in Ishikawa Prefecture in central Japan, intense snowstorms hit the region a week later. These storms created severe conditions for survivors and complicated rescue operations. As of January 9, authorities reported the death toll from the earthquake had reached 202 people, with 102 individuals still missing. Heavy snowfall affected the affected regions and broader areas of Hokuriku and Niigata prefectures. In Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, snow accumulation reached 5.1 inches, while in neighboring cities of Nanao and Wajima, it measured 4.3 inches and 3.5 inches, respectively.
