Fuzz Guitars: Sonic Youth Special. Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster.

Hi my name is Loz and I work at Fuzz Guitars in Nottingham, England: I shoot videos of our stock here at the shop, for the most part I try to demonstrate the instruments in a way which I would like to hear them demonstrated. The great majority of videos on youtube will show guitars being used for complex lead playing, and the tone will almost always be immaculate (Parisian Walkways style). A lot of the time I will play these instruments with an extremely gritty tone and a lot of hard rhythm playing to try and give alternative music fans a better idea of how the guitar might sound when they play it. After a warm reception for the Shoegaze Special video I shot using a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster, I thought I’d showcase some more of this guitar’s flexibility with this video. The guitar handles alternative tunings VERY well, even with standard .010 gauge strings. I’m a big fan of this guitars nasal wasp-like tone when driven, but equally with its low end response on the neck pickup. The duncan designed p90’s have an impressive amount of clarity and have a lot of the tonal characteristics of the Fender Jazzmaster pickups. I would highly recommend factoring-in a new set of saddles when purchasing this instrument, especially if your going to thrash it (the strings tend to pop out the stock one when under a lot of stress). The saddles it comes with as standard are true to the originals that the Fenders are supplied with, a lot of the famous musicians you will have seen playing a Jazzmaster would have changed theirs out too. (Something like the ’Graphtech PS-8108-00’ would do great). Other than that this guitar never fails to put a smile on my face! A great buy for alternative music fans on a budget, and the perfect tool for sculpting all sorts of strange sonic landscapes.
