Woodworks

It was interesting to work with pearls in this video. When I started crushing them I realized they’re basically layered seashells with a polished finish. Easy enough! So the crushing began. You’ll notice I first applied the fine ground pearl as a base layer to hide all of the bright red cedar within the grooves. Then the coarse crushed pearl to create the beautiful mosaic. This is a very easy process because the shells aren’t anything like turquoise, for example, which I’ve used before for a similar project. Once you fill all of the large gaps with pearl just keep layering superglue until it fills the groove to the edge of the cup. It hardens harder than the shell, it’s clear, and it will hold onto the shells very tightly. This is a very diverse technique with so many options available. As long as you don’t run out of superglue. Disclaimer: After decades of wood working (wood turning, sculpting, building projects) I’ve developed unique techniques when putting certain tools to use.
