Measuring the Acceleration of the Solar System With Gaia

Astronomers have measured the acceleration of the Solar System around the center of the galaxy using data from Gaia’s Early Data Release 3 (Gaia EDR3), which was made public on December 3, 2020. The velocity of the Solar System has been measured to change by nm/s every second. Due to this tiny acceleration, the trajectory of the Solar System is deflected by the diameter of an atom every second. In a year this adds up to around 115 km. The acceleration measured by Gaia shows a good agreement with the t
