Barong Dance in Bali (Scary - real trance and animal behaviour!)
All cultures and religions have their own version of an ancestral combat between good and evil. Balinese Hinduism is no exception, with the fight between Barong (the lion looking figure) And Rangda (the female, white figure). The first represents the good, while the other is named the queen of the “leyaks“ - men, whose spirit can be detached from the body and travel at night in pursue of evil deeds. The fight is staged in ceremonies all around Bali, and this one was filmed in Padang Bai on invitation by Pak Widana from Widana dive services ().
Local people get carried away during the ceremony and some get into trance, crying, screaming, or imitating animals. There are no actors in here, nor it is a staged tourist performance. All was captured during one ceremony, and it’s as raw as it can be.
Camera used was Nikon D850, on Ronin S gimbal, and there was a lot of luck not to damage it, sometimes.
