Hula Hoop Elephants (1959)

Ascot, Berkshire. Billy Smart’s Circus. M/S silver shoes and legs of platinum blond Penny Smart, dressed in tiny short stage skirt and red majorette style show jacket as she hula hoops. She’s not the only one; Monja, the elephant can too. M/S of the elephant as she steps into a hoop, and the attendants help draw it up to her middle and she wiggles her hips to hula. M/S of Penny Smart hula hooping again. ’Life goes with a swing’ goes the commentary, The elephant gets a titbit. Pioneer, the baby elephant has a go, with help from Coco, the clown, who tries to do a few hulas with the hoop round his neck. He gets in a mess and the baby elephant grabs a hoop back and puts it over his own head. The commentary finishes up with ’If you want to be an entertainer, you have to go through the hoop’.
