Cuts from newsreel 47/95 - Film Party at the Savoy Hotel, London.
M/S of comedian / comic actor Bob Hope flanked by actresses Patricia Roc and Alexis Smith as he makes small talk for the camera (sound).
Mute shot of Bob chatting to Patricia Roc. American film star Robert Montgomery arrives and shakes hands with officials. British actress Margaret Lockwood arrives, looking supremely glamorous in a wonderful wide-brimmed hat, and shakes hands with officials. More arrivals: British actress Phyllis Calvert, US actress Loretta Young, British actress Ann Todd, glamorous US film star Carole Landis in a huge hat, Patricia Roc. Nice shots of the stars mingling with the crowd and chatting to each other.
Sound section with Bob asking Alexis how she enjoyed the trip over. She was seasick for the first three days. Bob talks of going to “the wedding“ - Royal Wedding - and says he’s brought some rice over from Tommy Manville that he’s trying to hustle.
A man gathers a group of stars into position. Sound and mute shots of the group. From left to right - actress Lilli Palmer, Rex Harrison, Roc, Landis, Todd, Hope, Young, Lockwood, Smith and Valerie Hobson. More mingling. Montgomery chats to Palmer and Harrison. Bob Hope looks happy to be between Roc and Lockwood. Funny shot where Bob is posing with his arms around Loretta Young and tries to kiss her. Landis can just be heard telling others in the group to move forward and look to the front (bossy!). Bob talks about the service on the Queen Mary.
General view of the scene with arrivals being announced by the usher (natural sound). M/S Joe Grosman (of Pathe) chatting to Pat Roc and Loretta Young (off the record shots).
