Michael Jackson - Hollywood Tonight (80s Mix) [12“ Version]

The original version of “Hollywood Tonight” was leaked by American producer Eulonzo on March 12th, 2021. It was unknown this version existed. Although fans are familiar with the version that was released on the “Michael” posthumous album in 2010, it has been revealed that “Hollywood Tonight” was originally recorded as far back as 1987 during the Bad sessions, and was one of the two songs that he considered for his 1987 Pepsi commercial. The other song was “Price of Fame”, which would later be released on the Bad 25th Anniversary album. It was recorded in early 1987 at Westlake Recording Studios, along with the rest of the songs from the Bad sessions. He started off by making mouth rhythms of the beat in his head to Quincy in the studio, which he also incorporated into the track. Quincy Jones produced the song with Michael co-producing it. Brian May, from the band Queen, was visiting Los Angeles and was invited by Michael to the studio. He provided the guitar solo towards the end of the track. While Michael liked it, there was a conflict between him and Quincy with the song due to Quincy feeling it was “too weak” to be included on the Bad album. Then at one point Michael was preparing for the concept of the 1987 Pepsi commercial & suggested they use the song for it, and have a female star in the commercial packing her bags & heading to Hollywood etc. But Pepsi rejected idea, so he went with “Price of Fame”, which was a demo that was later replaced with an edition version of Bad. “Hollywood Tonight” was later shelved and evolved into “Just Good Friends” with Stevie Wonder, which was put on the Bad album. Years later, Michael began working on a new version of the song in 1999 during the Invincible sessions. He would later work further on it in 2007 with Theron “Neff-U“ Feemster, but due to his passing in 2009, it would be co-produced with Teddy Riley, and released posthumously on the “Michael” album in 2010.
