Tour de France 2023, Stage 2 (Vitoria-Gasteiz - San Sebastián), course, route, profile, animation

“Sunday, 2 July On the 2nd stage of the Tour, the riders ride from Vitoria-Gasteiz to San Sebastián over 208.9 kilometres. From Jaizkibel - 8.1 kilometres at 5.3% - they descend to the finish town before the last 7.6 kilometres are flat. On the first 40 kilometres, the riders pass two reservoirs north of Vitoria-Gasteiz on flat roads. A little later, after Legutio, the route leads downhill to Arrasate. After another flat section, there are two climbs in quick succession, the Col d’Udana (4.5 kilometres at 5.1%) and the Côte d’Aztiria (2.7 kilometres at 5.3%). For the rest of the day, the riders go from one climb to the next over flat intermediate sections of about 10 kilometres. The Côte d’Alkiza (4.2 kilometres at 5.7%) and the Côte de Gurutze (2.6 kilometres at 4.7%) were categorised, but this could have happened much more often. Many other hills are not inferior to them. The race will undoubtedly find its preliminary decision at the Jaizkibel. The hill, known from the Clásica San Sebastián, has a gradient of 5.3 % over 8.1 kilometres. This average value is distorted, however, because there is an almost flat kilometre halfway up, which pushes the average value down sharply. At the summit of the Jaizkibel, there are still 16.5 kilometres to go. Half of this is a descent, the rest is fairly flat.“ ( & Routes ’n’ Maps ’n’ Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
