Two Californian hippies, Billy (Dennis Hopper of Blue Velvet and Speed) and Wyatt (Peter Fonda of Ulee’s Gold), who have made money selling drugs, set off on their motorcycles for the New Orleans carnival, sleeping under the stars because the motel owners take a dim view of these “hairy“ people. Along the way, they stay for a while in a community whose members lead a spartan and fraternal life. In the South, the hostility of the population becomes more and more evident. They are arrested for joining an official parade without permission and meet in p
