I mean, Billy was an asshole in season 2, but in season 3 we got to know Billy better, and through the flashbacks we saw how horrible his past was, and that he suffered a lot. I never thought I’d be so sad about the death of a character, but watching him sacrifice himself and asking for forgiveness to Max broke my heart.
