Chris Rea - All Summer Long

All Summer Long from 2000 Album “King of the Beach“ Greece. A place so many call paradise! sun, sand, sparkling sea. Greece. A land almost too ethereal, too magical and too steeped in mythology to be real. Greece... The Big Blue! The dazzling light and the crystal blue waters, in the quest of the paradise on earth... Whatever else is happening in the world you will still find greek warmth and hospitality. Greece is still sunny, the skies are still the most amazing blue, the mountains magical and the sea ... indescribable. The myth says that... On the day the Gods were distributing land to mortals, some came early and received large countries that would become the United States; some came on time and got countries that became known the Commonwealth or Spain; others came later and got Finland and Russia. Still good countries, just a little cold. But the Greeks had been indulging in Bacchian revelry the night before and came late. By the time they arrived, there was no more land to distribute. So what did the Gods do? Initially, the Gods thought to teach them a lesson for being irresponsible and let them wander the Earth to inhabit other lands as immigrants. But that seemed a little cruel. One of them remembered a small parcel of land and some islands they’d set aside for vacation. And after much discussion and debate, it was decided they didn’t need this land and gave it to the Greeks. And so the land of Gods became Greece. Why? Because the Greeks came late. Chris Rea “With all my own songs, I can remember exactly where I’ve written them. So that is how I remember words. When I am on stage, in my head I am always where I wrote the song. I close my eyes and imagine, so never forget.“ A sequel of sorts to his earlier “On the Beach“, “King of the Beach“ continued the laid-back mood of the earlier album but is a more mature and unified work. It’s one of his best albums and is a return to form after the film soundtrack “La Passione“ and the more electronic sounds of “The Road to Hell Part 2“. Written primarily during a vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, it’s replete with lots of beach and summer imagery in the titles (“King of the Beach,“ “All Summer Long,“ “Sandwriting,“ “Sail Away“) as well as the lyrics, which were originally written as poems. A remix of “All Summer Long“ was a big dance hit in Ibiza and other Mediterranean hot spots. A good album for a summer day, with a soulful mellowness flowing through the tracks.
