BAGHDAD, IRAQ--The Mausoleum of Abdul-Qadir Gilani (مزار گھوس), otherwise known as Mazar Ghous is the most sacred architectural site in all of Sufi Islam. Mazar Ghous is an Islamic Complex is dedicated to Abdul Qadir Gilani who was the founder of the Qadiriyya Sufi order. The Qadiriyya Sufi order was founded in Baghdad by Abdul Qadir Gilani nearly one thousand years ago. The dome of the Mazar Ghous was dedicated in 1535 by the Ottoman Empire and the building has stood since then, although in 2007, there was a suicide bombing in front of the Mazar Ghous in Baghdad, Iraq which resulted in substantial damage. The courtyard of the Mazar Ghous is massive and the Mazar Ghous also is site of one of the most comprehensive Islamic libraries in the world. The shrine of Abdul Qadir Gilani is an incredible sight. Adorned by mirrored tiles from floor to ceiling, experiencing Mazar Ghous is like transporting yourself into another dimension.
