Sade Live - Smooth Operator - Ronnie Scotts - London -1982

This was the first time the original band of SADE consisting of Paul Denman, Paul Cooke, Stuart Mathewman and Helen Adu performed the song Smooth Operator at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club in London in December 1982. This version is quite a heavy version on the drums but you have all the elements there that went onto make it a huge worldwide hit for Sade. To me it has a very Sly & Robbie feel to it as we have Sade singing to what is a drum and bass line with Stuart on sax. I guess we pioneered drum and bass at the time? This is a perfect example of what was the original drum and bass line that got refined by the original band over time.
