- Six Partitas - Glenn Gould - CD Quality

Featuring: 00:00:00 Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major, BWV 825 00:11:36 Partita No. 2 in C Minor, BWV 826 00:26:52 Partita No. 3 in A Minor, BWV 827 00:39:02 Partita No. 4 in D Major, BWV 828 01:04:08 Partita No. 5 in G Major, BWV 829 01:14:02 Partita No. 6 in E Minor, BWV 830 So because the Glenn Gould’s 6 Partitas video I usually listen on Youtube has mysteriously vanished, I decided to upload one myself, with higher audio quality and LP covers included. The master upload went through minimal editing, no equalizing whatsoever, and was encoded in AAC 512kbps/, in an attempt to combat Youtube’s second recompression process, going as low as AAC 128kbps/. In reality, the differences are actually negligible if one doesn’t try looking too hard for imperfections, since the sample rates throughout have been maintained (at ), dithering effect should not happen. The truth is that the Youtube version is a little bit more mellow in timbre and soft in sonority, but overall not a serious impediment to counterpoint music. Some of the annoying clippings in the master file are even “remedied“ by Youtube’s processing! It could be concluded that this version is good enough for casual enjoyment of Bach’s music under Gould’s mesmerizing spells. As a side note, thanks to the high-quality source, Partita No. 5 and 6 see the most significant improvement in clarity compared to other recordings on the platform (or at least those that I have tried). The one and only Toccata opening for the 6th, in my opinion, shines more brilliantly than ever and is definitely a pleasant little reward to the patient listener who has endured through the first five Partitas. It is also notable that this video is blocked in the US (claimed by Sony Classical), probably the reason why the older video disappeared. I’m not entirely sure about this issue. All that I’m notified is that this video will be available everywhere else on the planet. I hope Youtube keeps their words, for I am absolutely not profited from these contents, and spreading divine music and arts are the sole purpose of everything I upload onto my channel. Enjoy.
