Hiking Days (1931)

Hiking is announced to be one of the modern day “happiest and healthiest outdoor recreations.“ Man walks towards the camera in a country lane. He has his “knapsack“ on his back. Various shots of the man walking in country landscapes. “There is no joy like that of the open road, and we’re travelling over byways tramped by countless Canterbury pilgrims many, many centuries ago.“ Our hiker climbs over a stile, walks over a pretty bridge, looks at the view of the river whilst sitting on the bridge. We see the old Town Hall at Fordwich. We see the old drum and staff, used to summon the people when the Press Gang paid unwelcome visits. A man dressed in weird military garb holds up an old drum. Our hiker chats to him about it. C/U of the drum. At the old town Quay is the Crane House with a curious ducking chair (“used mostly for too talkative ladies!“). Our hiker is shown the chair.
