Compliance analysis and model extraction for DDR interconnects with Simbeor 2023

Simbeor 2023 is a universal electromagnetic signal integrity software that can be used not only for compliance verification of serial interconnects, but also for analysis of parallel interconnects. In this short video, I demonstrate how Simbeor can handle the iMX6 Rex Open Source board with DDR3 links (1066 Mb/s) from This board is featured in some of Robert Feranec’s videos First, I check the impedance and delays for one data bank. The impedance is off at most of the locations, but the delays are within 2 ps - a perfect match. Notice that the requested measurements appear in Simbeor exactly where they are taken on the PCB - at the component pins! Second, I build a BB SPICE model for all the interconnects that are needed for a system-level analysis of all the DRAM links on that board. This is a 308-port model with about 3000 unique cross-sections and about 500 vias. Simbeor builds this model in about 5 minutes. It is as easy as it looks - I only skipped the simulation time for the whole cluster.
