Israel “At War” After Hamas Fires 5000 Rockets From Gaza | Netanyahu Begins “Operation Iron Swords”

Israel was caught off guard by an unprecedented rocket attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7. The Hamas’ rocket barrage was combined with an assault by dozens of gunmen, who infiltrated the Israeli border town of Sderot and other communities. Israel’s military said it had declared a state of “war readiness“ and called up reservists in response to the attack. Explosions were heard by residents and direct hits on buildings were reported in Ashkelon, the Gederot region and Tel Aviv. The Red Alert warning sirens were activated in Tel Aviv, some 70 kilometres from the Gaza Strip, the Times of Israel reported. Israeli emergency services, as per local media, say at least 22 people in Israel have been killed, 500 injured by Hamas attacks.
