A Spring Heat Wave and Drought in the Forest, Fish in the Garden, Metal Roof, Rainwater Harvest

After a short winter with less snow than normal, I’m now dealing with a hot, dry spring that is making it difficult to grow food and work in the forest. To collect rainwater, I install a metal roof on the solar shed. I fish the big lakes for pike and fry one in a cast iron pan over a propane stove since the forest is tinder dry and susceptible to forest fire. I use the fish remains for compost for the vegetable garden. Moose and deer have been visiting the cabin site so I build a little more of the garden fence to protect the young trees, fruit and vegetables.
