Restoration Rusty Handmade Bowie Knife

Hello folks! Today I want to show you a new restoration of the knife. This is a homemade Bowie knife. The customer asked to put the blade in order, make a new handle for the knife and of course, the leather scabbard. The steel of the knife is hardened. He asked not to touch the guard. Obviously, the guard was taken from another knife. Fewer words are more work, let’s start the restoration. As usual, I used rust remover liquid to removed dirty and rust from the blade. Next, washing, drying and oiling. I made correction of blade and new on the knife. Etched the blade in a solution of 10% nitric acid. To remove the coating on the guard, I used nitric acid, neutralized in warm water with soda. Then washed with water and detergent and soda and wiped dry, then oiled. After, I treated the surface of the guard with a iron wire brush and etched with a special liquid to give a more interesting and old look.
