Putin meets leaders of Finland, Norway and Sweden

(9 Apr 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin met his counterparts from Finland, Norway, and Sweden on the sidelines of an Arctic forum in St. Petersburg on Tuesday. With Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, he discussed the behaviour of Finnish tourists in Russia, making a joke that “they behave normally, have snacks (referring to food eaten with vodka), so they are fine“. During talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg Putin commented on the case of Norwegian citizen  Frode Berg, who was arrested in Moscow in December 2017 and jailed on espionage charges. He said he will wait for the trial to wrap up before weighing pleas for a pardon. During his meeting with the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, Putin praised the Swedish companies and investors working in Russia, while Lofven was pleased to discuss political issues, stating “on some (issues) we have common views, on some we have different views“.
