It is in front of the Parliament, Syntagma Square, that we find the members of the presidential guard, a ceremonial unit which guards the building and the presidential house. Nevertheless, whereas in the past these guards really served to defend Parliament and its deputies in the event of an attack, today they only have a recreational or even tourist role.
