Om Namah Shivaya Mantra Meditation | Gurudev

In Sanskrit ’Man’ means mind and ’Tra’ means vehicle. Mantra is an effective vehicle that takes our mind deep within ourselves. Om Namah Shivay is known as the Maha Mantra or the Great Mantra. In simple words, the mantra means ’Salutations to Lord Shiva’. Om Namah Shivay is known as the Maha Mantra as it represents all the five elements, i.e. earth, water, fire, air and sky. ’Om’ pervades everything, ’Na’ represents ’Earth’, ’Ma’ represents ’Water’, ’Shi’ represents ’Agni’, ’Va’ represents ’Vayu’ does and ’or’ represents ether or ’sky’. Since it consists of five syllables namely ’Na’, ’Mah’, ’Shi’, ’Va’ and ’Ya’, Om Namah Shivay is also known as ’Panchakshari’ (which is composed of 5 syllables i.e. words, or made up of letters). Chanting Om Namah Shivay brings harmony to the five elements in the environment. When there is peace, love and harmony in the five elements, then there is joy, and not only within you, but joy all around you.
