Fear of God (Shoji Meguro PS2 Rock Remix) | Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

Gameplay footage by DS Destruction VODs: This is a cover of Fear of God by Shoji Meguro from Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. I have remade the track in the style of Shoji Meguro’s rock battle tracks around the PS2 era of SMT games, as if Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey released on the PS2 instead of the DS in 2009. I’ve had plenty of requests for this one and it has been on my mind for a while. Of all SMT tracks that could have been made in this style originally, this is one of the biggest candidates. Fear of God is a track with plenty of ups and downs and a whole lot of dynamic range, which I had to make sure to capture right. Meguro’s rock tracks from the PS2 era also did this, just more sparingly like Formidable Foe from Raidou. For this version, that means plenty of distorted guitar and trumpets for the intense parts, and softer pianos and clean guitar during the quieter sections. I had to make sure to fit in the choir vocals of course! I contemplated making original Nocturne style lyrics using Albert Text-to-Speech if I couldn’t get the choir to sit in the mix right, but luckily I did. Of course, Meguro’s signature guitar tone is always the most important element of these remixes, for a more detailed breakdown of how I recreated it, I’d advise checking out the description for the cover of An Honour Befitting That Name I made here: To be honest, I was never the biggest fan of this track, but it has grown on me over the years. If I’m going to tackle another Strange Journey track, I might go for Shekinah’s theme next as I actually really enjoy that one. Again though, I’m always open to requests! I hope you enjoy the track!
